Hey,

I’ve been thinking about posting this for a while, so I’m taking advantage of a sleeping nephew and am doing it whilst I think of it!

Basically, I’d love your thoughts, ideas and suggestions as to what you’d like to see at Wonderland Boutique (assuming you have any on such a trivial subject mind you!)  Please feel free to share your views on fabrics, prints, designs, embellishments, item and shipping charges – and if you’re one of the wonderful few who’ve already bought from me, I’d really appreciate your thoughts on packaging too!  Also, if you think there are any improvements to be made to my overall shop appearance, blurb and brand identity – I would so love to hear it.  I want to make my corner of Wonderland more about what people want to see and buy as oppose to just fulfulling my desires (step forward bird prints and vintage florals!)  Please be as honest/brutal as you need to be – I (and my store) can take it!  Gulp!

So please take a quick peek at my Etsyverse by clicking on the link below, and inspire/complain/revelate away – and help make Wonderland Boutique more wondrous!

Also, I have a few new Clutch Bag designs to show you.  They are just up and listed (so yes, they have 0 hearts but no, they are not part of the sale!  I’ve got to give them a chance!) and are made from some stunning Amy Butler, Tina Givens and Heather Bailey fabrics.  They are some of my new favourites, so bright and vibrant – the perfect accessories to shake off those winter blues and welcome the upcoming spring:

Snap Happy

February 1, 2009

Hey,

So it has been the most mind-numbing weekend ever as I spent both days of it welded to my computer so that I could edit my photos for all the items in my Etsy store.  Add to this spending the whole of Friday re-taking my photographs and it safe to say I have a headache, square eyes and a sore arse!

I think it’s been worth it though, as the inconsistency of my images always bothered me and at least now all my products are on a crisp, neutral background and appear (fingers crossed) that little bit more professional.  It’s all thanks to the lovely Jeannine from Iansmomma who so kindly walked me through using the photo editing software GIMP to achieve the look I wanted, after seeing my plea on one of the Etsy critique threads.  So swing by her gorgeous store, where you can check her stunning collection of natural aromatherapy heat packs, eye pillows, candles and other luxurious herbal products – perfect for gifts or treats for yourself!

Also please let me know what you think of my photography facelift!  I think it really makes my designs pop, and am hoping the clearer, more vivid pictures will lead to more sales (more fingers crossing.)  I’m continuing my efforts to make Wonderland Boutique go in a more vintage-shaped direction via my choices of fabric and my designs.  I’m starting to incorporate vintage buttons and adding touches of ribbon to lovely Amy Butler, Tina Givens and Heather Bailey fabrics which really embody that retro feel I’m trying to replicate.  Also, I’ve had some interest in stocking my designs in a local gallery/boutique so hopefully I’ll have some more news about that endeavour soon (even more finger crossing!)

So I’ll leave you with a few examples of my updated pics hoping that they can help in taking Wonderland Boutique to where I want it to be:

The Tide is High

January 18, 2009

Hey,

Just have a little bit of newness to share with you. I bought the most stunning fabric a few weeks ago from the lovely Alice of The Happy Crafter and loved working with it to create a new Large Tote and Clutch Bag - with a Zipper Pouch still to come.  The fabric is from Hoffman International’s Kimono Collecion, and it is a beautiful quality cotton featuring Japanese-inspired abstract wave imagery – all in tones of deepest navy, vivid blue, classic white and antique gold:

I teamed this delicious fabric with a co-ordinating navy polycotton for the lining of both bags, added an oversized bow made from these two fabrics to the clutch and added a touch of antiqued gold wide ribbon to the tote.  Both bags also have the addition of the most beautiful navy glass vintage buttons, which are heavily faceted and catch the light wonderfully.

Out With the Old

December 28, 2008

Hey,

After a bit of re-think towards the direction of Wonderland Boutique, I’ve decided to have a bit (well, a huge!) clearance sale.  I want to design and make things with a more vintage-inspired, quirky edge using fabrics that I adore – so it’s out with the old to make way for the new.  I also plan to introduce some new styles into the store in addition to the totes, coin purses and zipper pouches.

So up for sale are snippets of Hello Kitty, tattoo imagery, Alexander Henry and Robert Kaufman fabrics, cherries-a-go-go, chinese silks, snow white and fairy tales, bows-aplenty, cowboys, fruitiness, romance, stripes and a trip to the casino!

The clearance section has lots of Mini Totes and some fabulous coin purses all at bargain prices – with the added incentive (as if you needed it!) of free shipping on all sale items!  This won’t last forever, so just click on the link below and come get your own piece of Wonderland at a bargain price whilst you can!

Gothic Bloom

November 28, 2008

Hey,

Just a mini post today, to share with you my newest creation!  I’m a bit sad that I can’t actually list this in my Etsy store because I made it as a leaving present for a friend of mine who is emigrating to the somewhat sunnier climes of Australia in a few weeks.  She is also my hairdresser, and has been so for the past 10 years – so needless to say, the thought of letting someone else loose on my tresses is filling me with dread!  I have a secret hope that she will love her new bag so much that she (and her scissors) will just have to stay in good ol’ Wales.

Here’s hoping….

Down the Rabbit Hole….

September 29, 2008

Welcome to Wonderland Boutique’s blog!

I have held this account almost as long as I’ve had my lil’ old store on Etsy (which in the grand scheme of things isn’t actually that long at all) but have only just gotten around to posting.  This is typical me – I like to think of myself as ferociously organised and prepared, but I am in fact more ditsy and scatty than I care to admit.  I am therefore forever making lists of things that I never quite get around to doing, so bear with me, tag along, join in and be prepared to for my particular brand of curiousness.

So a little about me perhaps.  To (mis) quote my favourtie film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind – I’m just a messed up girl who’s looking for my own peace of mind.  I love a lot of things, hate a few (despite myself) and am strangely apathetic about some.  I want to be extraordinary but am constantly fearful that I am anything but.

I intend this blog to chart the progress of Wonderland Boutique though it will more than likely rapidly become an outlet for my musings on love, life and everything.   I also want to use this as a space to share my discoveries of amazing books, art, film and handmade delights.  There is a wealth of homegrown UK talent on Etsy and they really are the most wonderful people, so I also hope to feature and profile some of my favourites who in my mind, really should be (any maybe secretly already are) running the world.

I had intended to include an Etsy Mini – which if you’re not aware, is a glorious little widget which displays your store’s wares – but alas, I have just discovered that WordPress does not support them.  I am slightly miffed but still prefer WordPress to Blogspot – the latter just sounds like an unfortunate malady to me.  So I shall instead shamelessly add a picture or 20 of my little pieces of Wonderland:

There, shameless pimp out of the way (though with all honesty, be prepared for many more) and I suppose my first post too.  So the introductions are done, the hands shaken, and the hugs offered – so feel free to check back and check in with my future ramblings.

Come, follow me down the rabbit hole….
