Diary of a Shopping Addict
January 18, 2009
Hey,
Well recently I seem to have developed a bit of a shopping addiction. I’m pretty sure it stems from the hellish nature of the past year and wanting to establish a whole new me. This together with my recent weight loss is allowing me to indulge in a pastime that I used to look upon as a total chore, one that would inevitably leave me feeling depressed and reeling from the fact that I could get nothing but tents.
This past week had been a bit of a ho-hum affair, with even my favourite all-butter chocolate-chip cookies and an excess of Dexter-watching doing remarkably little to take off the edge – so yesterday I met up with my wonderful friend Wendy for some Bristol-shaped shopping. Initially we failed miserably and bought little other than food and the odd beer, but hooray for the old faithful that is New Look! There I found the most gorgeously quirky dress:

Dress - BIRD PRINT
Oddly for me (as a diminutive 5′5″ – at a push) I found it in the Tall section, and it is a classic black with an all-over print of teeny white birds – I’ve come over all Tippi Hedren! It has a lovely deep V-neck and there is wonderful ruffle/pleating detail at the neckline and a tie-waist (which I will take off as I’m not a fan of the tie-waist, I feel it ages me and I definitely don’t need any help in that department!) It is extra delicious as I managed to get into a size smaller than I have been of late (I hope that this doesn’t mean I have to buy a whole new wardrobe again, as I’ve already done that twice with my weight loss over about the past 6 months and ’tis expensive!) and that was before I discovered it had a zip to open – so here’s a shameless extra yey! I think I’ll team it with a leggings/cardi/flats combo which is a look I am belatedly coming to love. I’m still trying to decide what era it reminds me of, I’m thinking maybe it’s quite 1930’s – whatever, whenever, I love it.
I also bought socks and a Mr Potato Head, and was given the most amazing pressie of a copy of Matt Berry’s album – which without a doubt is the strangest thing I have ever heard. It’s like a cross between Barry White, Bagpuss, a bit of Pink Floyd and a whole lot of filth. Naturally, I can’t stop listening to it. Oh the randomness of me!
Note to self though, in future do not wear heels to go shopping in regardless of how cute you think they look just because they are purple T-bars, as today my blisters have blisters. I even resorted to buying a pair of flats just to walk to the train station in but all that did was create a whole new level of pain…oh well, at the very least it provides an excuse for looking for a new pair of shoes comfortable enough for a day trawling Cabot Circus with the Wend – classic Converse anyone?

I have two things to say to you:
1. I LOVE Dexter!!! What series are you on?
2. That dress looks lovely. I want to see you in it, please!

1. Have just finished watching Series 3! LOVE Dexter!
2. Dress shall be debuted as soon as I master taking the waist-tie off – ’tis a bit confusing at the mo!
